Tom: Stejně jsme hledali baskytaristu a bubeníka!
Vždycky jsme měli stejné sny a cíle. Vždy jsme plánovali něco na základě obou dvou.
Tom: Samozřejmě, taky jsme se spolu prali!
Georg: A když jste rozjetí, nenecháte nikoho do vás zasáhnout!
Pořád jsme dospívající a děláme to, co ostatní v našem věku.
Teď poslouchám nové album Jimmy Eat World.
Bill: Pořád mám rád Nenu. Ale také mám rád Coldplay, Keen, Green Day and Placebo.
Gustav: Miluju Foo Fighters a Metallicu.
Tom: Poslouchám hlavně německý hip-hop. Vždy jsme chtěli vytvořit náš vlastní styl. A tohle se nakonec stalo.Když jsme vkročili do zkušebny, našli jsme jej.
Nečekali jsme to. Pak se přidala Evropa. Těď máme šanci jít do Kanady a USA.
Máme písně a materiály.
Pak přeložíme texty do Angličtiny. Mimochodem, moje Angličtina není dostatečně dobrá na to, abych v ní psal texty.
Co čeká Tokio Hotel?
Tom: Jsme uprostřed našeho třetího evropského turné. Skončí v dubnu. Pak plánujeme návrat do Kanady a Spojených států.

Tokio Hotel to conquer the North American market (interview)
On March 17, 2008 - Julie Rhéaume
How was born the group? I think you have started under a different name in 2001?
Tom: "Wow, it's really a funny time in our past… But you seem to know about it. When we started seven years ago, we chose the name Develish (Devilish, according to some sources) without any particular reason. When I think back to this name, it should have been the idea of Bill."
Bill: "Yeah… Anyway, when Tom and I started, we were about nine years old. I wrote my first lyrics and we composed our first songs."
Tom: "We started playing in clubs and at festivals. One night after a concert in a pub, we met Georg and Gustav."
Georg: "Gustav and I met at the music school and we became friends. When we saw Bill and Tom play, it was obvious they needed help."
Tom: "We were looking for a bass player and a drummer anyway!"
Gustav: "The best!"
Tom: "The only! So we decided to give them a chance. That was seven years ago."
Tom and Bill, is it difficult to be two brothers in the same band? Do you get along well or sometimes annoy each other?
Bill: "We have always done everything together. I can't remember a time in which we have been doing things separately, with the exception of the school. We have always had the same dreams and goals. We have always planned on the basis of both of us."
Tom: "Of course, we also fight/yell at each other!"
Georg: "And if you are smart, you do not interfere!"
Bill: "It becomes quite nasty and rather extreme! Afterwards, when it's over, everything is forgotten. The whole thing must, however, happen between Tom and me. If you interfere, it will turn against you."
Tom: "It's always like that! At the end, it's always Bill and me against the rest of the world."
You are involved in the music industry for many years, but you are still very young. Is it difficult to be taken seriously when you are young?
Bill: "We have always wanted (a career). We spend all our time and all our energies to the music when our dreams come true. We are still adolescents, and we do what other people of our age do. Of course, we had to get used to certain things. We were 15 years old when the song "Durch den Monsun" ("Monsoon") has reached number one on the charts. We have somehow grown up in a very public way. We were brought up in a very free way and suddenly, they make a fuss about it when we were partying. You could read it in the newspapers the next morning."
Tom: "Indeed! Except that nowadays it is no longer as serious as we are now 18 years old."
What are your musical influences? Also, what groups are you listening to right now?
Georg: "We listen to very different kind of music. One can not speak about only one influence. I have always been a fan of Oasis. These days, I listen a lot to the new album of Jimmy Eat World. "
Bill: "I always like Nena (German band known for its hit" 99 Red Balloons" in the 80s) but I also like Coldplay, Keen, Green Day and Placebo."
Gustav: "I love the Foo Fighters and Metallica."
Tom: "I mainly listen to German hip-hop. We always wanted to create our own sound. That's what happened. When we set foot in our rehearsal room, we found it. It emerged quite naturally and then, it has developed. You can say that our music and our sound can be seen as our common area of agreement."
The album "Scream" will be available this spring in North America. Have you always wanted to break the American market?
Tom: "It's not as if we had an ultimate goal, strategy or recipe as it relates to our careers. Our success in Germany surprised us. We are not expecting it to be like that. Then, Europe has embarked. Now we have the chance to go to Canada and the United States. It's crazy, especially for a German band."
Bill: "Yes, it's not like we said to ourselves let's go in this country and then that one. When we found out that we had fans at a particular place in Germany and they wanted to see us on stage, we went there. It has always been like that. Going to the United States and America is so amazing for us! We really want to try our luck."
Tom: "Of course. We will do our best to succeed there, except that we do not confront/concern ourselves with expectations or pressure."
Would you be tempted to modify your sound or your kind of material to appeal to the American public or to people in the music industry in this country?
Bill: "What you see and hear is what you get! For us, it is important to make the music we want, say what we want, to be in control and to stay ourselves. We have full control over what we do. Making an album in English is our own initiative so that everyone can understand. Music is something that is still evolving. Of course, we are going to change. We have already done. After many performances in 2005 and 2007, we have acquired a lot of experience. You can hear that on the second album. Quite frankly, I do not see us leave the path we have traced to suddenly become a completely different band.
Are you working on a next record of original material? Is this potential next album going to be in German, English, or will you record two versions?
Bill: "We are writing constantly. We have songs and material. But to be honest with you, we have not begun to work on a new album yet."
Tom: "But we will do so! We simply need time to go into the studio, which should happen later this year, that's for sure!"
Bill: "And we will proceed as we always do. My first language is German. It is one in which I think, I dream, that I feel and that I am speaking of course all the time. I will continue to write in German because it is the best way to express myself. Then we will translate the lyrics into English. By the way, my English is not good enough for writing in that language…"
What's coming for Tokio Hotel?
Tom: "We are in the middle of our third European tour. It will be finished in April. Afterwards, we plan to return to Canada and the United States. We will play at a lot of European festivals this summer and then we will go back into the studio to work on our next album. We won't be bored …
